U.S. Congressman Mike Flood has addressed concerns regarding staffing issues at the National Weather Service (NWS) offices in Nebraska. In a statement, he acknowledged reports indicating that these challenges are affecting the quality of weather forecasts provided by the agency.
Flood emphasized the importance of reliable weather forecasts for Nebraskans, who depend on accurate information during severe weather events such as flooding, blizzards, and tornadoes. "Over the years, the National Weather Service has issued regular weather forecasts across the country," he stated. He further noted his efforts to engage with NWS officials to gain a better understanding of the situation: "I’ve reached out to the NWS to learn more about this issue."
The congressman expressed his hope that the National Weather Service will continue its longstanding service to Nebraska effectively in future years. "Through flooding, blizzards, tornadoes, and more, Nebraskans have relied on forecasts from the NWS and it is my hope to see the agency continue to serve Nebraska well for many years to come," Flood added.
