Rep. Mike Flood, a U.S. Congressman representing Nebraska’s 1st district since 2022, has used his social media platform to comment on the ongoing government shutdown, attributing responsibility to the Democratic Party and highlighting its effects on federal programs and workers.
On October 6, 2025, Flood posted, "It's Day 6 of the Democrat Shutdown. WIC is running out of funds Troops & safety workers unpaid No new flood insurance policies It’s time to end the Democrat Shutdown. My update here https://t.co/44tW9lKzPZ".
The following day, on October 7, 2025, he praised Senator Deb Fischer’s advocacy for agricultural producers, quoting her statement: "Rising input costs and uncertainty have driven farm finances to levels reminiscent of the 1980s crisis." He encouraged followers to watch her full speech.
Later that day, Flood reiterated his criticism of the Democratic Party regarding the shutdown. He wrote, "Democrats shut down our government to appease their radical leftwing base. The results? Military and their families will not get paid USDA food inspectors will go without pay TSA agents will miss a paycheck More in my recent conversation with @CNN https://t.co/w0bCkzrBOs".
Flood, who was born in Omaha, Nebraska in 1975 and currently resides in Norfolk, has a background in law and public service. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a BA in 1997 and earned a JD from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2001. Before his tenure in Congress, which began after replacing Jeff Fortenberry in 2022, Flood served in the Nebraska State Legislature from 2007 to 2013.
