Rep. Mike Flood, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Nebraska’s 1st district since 2022, has used his social media platform to comment on the ongoing government shutdown and its implications. Flood posted several updates on X (formerly Twitter) during October 2025, focusing on what he describes as the negative impact of the shutdown and attributing responsibility to Democratic lawmakers.

On October 15, 2025, Flood wrote: " It's WEEK 3 of the Democrat Shutdown By keeping the government shut, Democrats are gambling with our nation's military readiness. Here's my update from Washington https://t.co/yX4iW2xdT4".

The following day, Flood invited followers to watch his live appearance by posting: "Live on CSPAN- tune in here https://t.co/x5ptIrEecK" (October 16, 2025).

Later that same day, he questioned Democratic motives for the shutdown and highlighted policies he says are at risk: "Why did Democrats shut down our government? They want to roll back commonsense wins in @HouseGOP's Working Families Tax Relief:

Work requirements for able-bodied adults

$50 BILLION in rural healthcare

Rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse

More on how the Democrats want https://t.co/qhuXBh2FcP" (October 16, 2025).

Flood’s statements come amid a protracted federal government shutdown in October 2025. As a representative for Nebraska’s 1st district—a position he assumed after replacing Jeff Fortenberry—Flood has consistently voiced support for House GOP initiatives such as work requirements for certain benefits and increased funding for rural healthcare. Before joining Congress in 2022, Flood served in the Nebraska State Legislature from 2007 to 2013.

Born in Omaha in 1975 and currently residing in Norfolk, Flood is an alumnus of the University of Notre Dame (BA) and holds a JD from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
