Rep. Adrian Smith, a U.S. Congressman representing Nebraska’s 3rd district since 2007, addressed the ongoing government shutdown and other national issues in a series of recent social media posts.
On October 6, Smith commented on the federal funding impasse, stating, "This shutdown was truly avoidable, and Republicans stand ready to end it. Read my latest on the government funding crisis."
The following day, Smith issued a statement regarding international events. On October 7, he wrote, "My statement on the anniversary of the October 7 attacks in Israel and the current negotiations to recover hostages."
Later that same day, Smith addressed the economic impact of the shutdown on his home state. He posted, "The Council of Economic Advisors has estimated Nebraska’s GDP will decline by nearly $100 million each week during a shutdown. Democrats should stop the stonewalling and set partisan demands aside so we can get the federal government back to work for the American people."
Smith, who was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska in 1970 and currently resides in Gering, has represented Nebraska's 3rd District in Congress since replacing Tom Osborne in 2007. Prior to his tenure in Congress, he served in the Nebraska Legislature from 1999 to 2007. Smith holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.
