On April 3, 2025, he commented on a significant shift in the U.S’s trade policy with the initiation of a new era by President Donald Trump. Flood remarked on Trump's previous successful use of tariffs to negotiate advantageous trade agreements, calling this the kick-off for a renewed global trade strategy "Today, President @realDonaldTrump kicked off a new era in America’s trade relationships around the world. In his first term, the President successfully used tariffs to produce great trade deals for the United States."

On the same day, Flood contrasted President Trump’s achievements with those of President Biden's, noting Biden’s lack of major trade deals at the end of his term. Flood expressed optimism for the current strategy, hoping it would rapidly expand trade and reduce barriers, enhancing U.S. exports "Over the last four years, President Biden had zero major trade deals by the end of his administration.
