U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), who serves as a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and chairs the Strategic Forces Subcommittee, commented on the recent passage of the Fiscal Year 2026 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) in the Senate.
In her statement, Senator Fischer addressed concerns about international security threats. "Right now, our adversaries are sharing weapons, resources, and a common goal: to weaken the United States and dismantle our influence around the globe. I’m proud that this year’s National Defense Authorization Act meets this moment by investing in deterrence and our brave men and women in uniform."
Fischer noted her involvement in securing several provisions within the NDAA. "I successfully fought to secure important provisions to boost our nuclear deterrence, protect defense spectrum, strengthen our missile defense systems, and improve responses to mass casualty events. I’m also pleased to have delivered critical investments for Nebraska. Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha plays a crucial role in defending our nation, which is why I used my role as a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee to secure wins for U.S. Strategic Command, the 557th Weather Wing, and the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency—all located at Offutt."
She concluded by emphasizing Congress's responsibility toward national security: "The first duty of Congress is to defend the nation. With the passage of this bill, Congress is doing its part to equip our troops with the tools and resources they need to carry out their mission."
The FY26 NDAA includes measures that focus on strengthening nuclear deterrence capabilities, protecting military communication channels known as defense spectrum, improving missile defenses, enhancing preparedness for large-scale emergencies involving multiple casualties, and supporting facilities such as Offutt Air Force Base.
