U.S. Congressman Mike Flood has expressed his support for H.R. 28, known as the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, following a recent vote in favor of the legislation. The bill aims to ensure that young American women have opportunities to compete on fair terms.
Flood stated, "The Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act gives the next generation of young American women the same opportunities as their mothers had to compete on a fair playing field." He emphasized that participating in athletics based on biological sex is "just common sense."
According to Flood, while the current administration attempted to allow biologically male students to participate in girls' sports, he believes change is forthcoming. "The incoming Trump administration and congressional Republicans will continue to fight for the next generation of women as we work to safeguard our schools and institutions against gender ideology," he added.
Previously supported by Rep. Flood during its introduction in Congress, the bill did not progress past the Senate at that time. It seeks to uphold Title IX by prohibiting federal funding for sports events that allow biological males to compete in women's categories.
