Deputy Nissen and Sergeant Hanson were able to stop in at Freeman School in Adams on Friday, April 1st and visit with Mrs. Israelson's 4th grade class.
The unscheduled visit had many students wondering if this was an April Fool's Day prank, but by the end of the visit everyone had learned something interesting about each other.
One of the students asked the inevitable question, and to the surprise of no one, it was learned deputies actually DO like doughnuts (who doesn't???).
The deputies learned Mrs Israelson is a veteran of the Nebraska Army National Guard and served a tour of duty in Iraq (Thank you for your service), served honorably, and left the Guard at the rank of sergeant.
Sergeant Hanson is also a retired Marine Corps major who had two combat tours in Iraq and Kuwait. Deputy Nissen also serves as a staff sergeant in the Nebraska National Guard.
Sergeant Hanson was tasked with finding "Waldo" and with the hot or cold encouragement from the class, located Waldo !!!
This was a thoroughly enjoyable day for the deputies and we hope to get back up there AND to the other schools in the county very soon.
