U.S. Congressman Mike Flood has voiced his opposition to recent recommendations made by the 2025 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee. In a statement, he criticized the committee's stance on certain food items, including meat and potatoes.
Flood expressed concern over what he described as "the far left’s war on your grocery list," highlighting that the committee's recommendations target essential dietary staples. He emphasized the nutritional value of these foods, stating, "Meat is the most efficient way to deliver protein, and potatoes contain basic nutrients like potassium and Vitamin C."
He further argued that these foods are fundamental to America's food security and called on federal agencies to dismiss the recommendations. "I urge both the U.S. Department of Agriculture and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to reject these ill-informed recommendations and the activist thinking which is trying to reshape our diets and the way of life for the farm families who grow our food," Flood stated.
The congressman's remarks reflect ongoing debates surrounding dietary guidelines and their impact on agriculture and consumer choices.
