Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) issued a statement on the death of former Vice President Richard Cheney. Smith highlighted Cheney's roots in Nebraska and his long record of public service.
“Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, Vice President Richard Cheney was a patriot who dedicated his life to service. From the Capitol, to the Pentagon, to the White House, he left an indelible mark on history, overseeing consequential action to defend American prerogatives and promote democracy around the globe. His leadership across five Presidential administrations was critical in addressing our nation’s starkest challenges.
“Andrea and I send our condolences to the Cheney family and we will hold them in our prayers.”
Adrian Smith has represented Nebraska’s 3rd district in Congress since 2007 after succeeding Tom Osborne. Before joining Congress, he served in the Nebraska Legislature from 1999 to 2007. Smith was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska in 1970 and currently resides in Gering. He graduated from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1993.
