Rep. Mike Flood reflects on WWII anniversary and community visits in Nebraska

Rep. Mike Flood, who represents Nebraska’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, marked the 80th anniversary of Japan’s surrender in World War II and highlighted his recent activities in Utica, Nebraska, through a series of posts on September 2, 2025.

In a post commemorating the end of World War II, Flood wrote: "80 years ago today, Japan officially surrendered aboard the USS Missouri, marking the end of World War II. The sacrifices of our heroes during WWII have made the world a safer and more peaceful place for new generations of Americans - they will never be forgotten. #VJDay80 https://t.co/BRPHJ1GDFf" (September 2, 2025).

Flood also shared his engagement with local students: "Recently spoke to a @cpsbroncos high school civics class in Utica. It's always great to engage with the next generation of Nebraskans - thanks for welcoming me to Centennial! https://t.co/jJ9BH980zv" (September 2, 2025).

He further praised local initiatives in rural communities: "The Centennial Market Cooperative is a wonderful example of how rural communities like Utica are growing their quality of life. Thanks for a great visit! https://t.co/tfQIfoIcJS" (September 2, 2025).

Flood has served in Congress since 2022 after replacing Jeff Fortenberry and previously served in the Nebraska State Legislature from 2007 to 2013. Born in Omaha in 1975 and currently residing in Norfolk, he holds degrees from the University of Notre Dame and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
