Rep. Adrian Smith, a U.S. Congressman representing Nebraska’s 3rd district since 2007, recently addressed issues ranging from international trade to tax policy in a series of social media posts.
On July 24, 2025, Smith commented on changes to U.S.-Australia beef trade relations, stating, "While Australia is a valuable trading partner, their long-standing restrictions on U.S. beef were neither right nor reciprocal. The removal of these unscientific and unfair barriers, while long overdue, sends a strong message regarding the safety and quality of American". This statement highlights ongoing concerns about international trade barriers affecting American agricultural exports.
The following day, July 25, Smith discussed his participation in a conversation with Tax Notes about recent legislative efforts: "I joined @TaxNotes to discuss what went into crafting tax relief in the One Big Beautiful Bill to support workers, expand opportunity, and our grow our economy." He elaborated further that same day during remarks at a field hearing by the House Ways and Means Committee: "In the #OneBigBeautifulBill Republicans
Made pro-family tax relief permanent
Extended pro-growth TCJA policies
Reinforced long-term strength of safety net programs
See my remarks from today’s @WaysandMeansGOP field hearing."
Smith's comments come as part of his broader legislative focus. Since taking office in Congress after Tom Osborne in 2007 and previously serving in the Nebraska Legislature from 1999 to 2007, Smith has been active on economic and agricultural issues. Born in Scottsbluff in 1970 and currently residing in Gering, Smith holds a BA from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.
