U.S. Senator Deb Fischer has introduced new legislation aimed at strengthening America's nuclear capabilities. As a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and Chair of the Strategic Forces Subcommittee, Fischer unveiled the NNSA Infrastructure Improvements Act of 2025. This bill is designed to enhance the efforts of the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) in modernizing nuclear infrastructure.
The proposed legislation seeks to empower the NNSA by prioritizing updates to America's nuclear facilities as outlined in its Enterprise Blueprint report. Fischer emphasized the importance of maintaining a credible and modernized nuclear deterrent, stating, "Restoring peace through strength and keeping the homeland safe means maintaining a credible, modernized nuclear deterrent." She highlighted the necessity of upgrading outdated facilities from as far back as the Manhattan Project era.
The NNSA released its Enterprise Blueprint report last year, providing a 25-year roadmap for aligning its recapitalization strategy with weapons production needs. The new act would mandate continuous updates to this blueprint and provide Congress with actionable data for future policy and funding decisions.
