U.S. Congressman Mike Flood has introduced a new bill aimed at reducing taxpayer funding for a section of the Inflation Reduction Act. The bill, named the "Ending Green Giveaways Act," seeks to eliminate funding for federal grants from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that target environmental and climate justice challenges.
"Last year, the American people resoundingly rejected President Biden’s radical Green New Deal and handed Republicans a trifecta in Washington," stated Congressman Flood. "President Trump promised to roll back the Green New Deal, and this bill takes a key step towards doing that. The Ending Green Giveaways Act returns unused funds from the $3 billion of taxpayer money allocated to an out-of-touch, unaccountable ‘environmental justice’ grant program managed by the EPA."
The legislation focuses on removing text related to "Environmental and Climate Justice Block Grants" under the Inflation Reduction Act. This program had received $3 billion in federal funding and is expedited by the EPA. Concerns about this program were previously raised by the EPA's Inspector General who testified before Congress about potential issues with internal controls and anti-fraud protections.
Joining Congressman Flood as original co-sponsors of this bill are Rep. Mike Collins (GA-10), Rep. Brad Finstad (MN-01), Rep. Harriet Hageman (WY-AL), Rep. Celeste Maloy (UT-02), and Rep. Scott Perry (PA-10).
