WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Mike Flood issued a recorded statement today in advance of Memorial Day, which will be observed on May 27th. Video of the remarks is available for news outlets to use in their reporting.
"This is Congressman Mike Flood," he began. "I would like to take a moment to wish everyone a safe and meaningful Memorial Day."
Flood emphasized the significance of the holiday, stating, "This weekend, we celebrate the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice protecting and defending the United States of America. From the beaches of Normandy to the deserts in Afghanistan, America’s heroes stepped up to defend our country and way of life."
He continued by acknowledging the contributions of past generations: "Our nation is great today thanks to generations of soldiers who have dedicated their lives to America. On Memorial Day, we honor their sacrifice and reflect on the great legacy they leave behind."
Flood also highlighted the importance of supporting families who have lost loved ones in service: "As we remember and reflect, let’s never forget the families our heroes have left behind. They too have sacrificed so much, and they need our continued support."
Concluding his message with well-wishes for safety during celebrations, Flood said, "However you plan to celebrate, I encourage you to travel safely and have a great weekend. Have a safe Memorial Day. God bless you and God bless the United States of America!"
