Congressman Mike Flood will be a special guest speaker at the Workforce Housing Summit hosted by the Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce on January 23rd. The summit aims to address the challenges and find solutions to the lack of affordable housing in America.
In his address, Congressman Flood emphasized the importance of investing in housing and its positive impact on communities. He stated, "When communities decide to invest in housing it makes a difference. You can see results from such efforts right here in the First Congressional District." He acknowledged that providing affordable housing options for every American family will be a long journey requiring various solutions. Congressman Flood stressed the need to keep the dream of owning a home alive in America.
The event will also feature the presence of Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) Director Thompson, who plays a crucial role in housing finance in America. Congressman Flood expressed his pleasure at Director Thompson's participation, as it provides an opportunity to address the unique workforce housing challenges faced by the community of Columbus.
A recent survey conducted by Lending Tree revealed that 94% of Americans view owning a house as part of the American Dream. However, more than half of those who do not own a home expressed concerns about never being able to do so. High home prices, saving for a down payment, student loan debt, and other barriers were cited as reasons for their worries.
During the Workforce Housing Summit, Congressman Flood will discuss the factors that have contributed to the inflated cost of buying a home and the solutions already implemented in Nebraska. He will also shed light on the federal level's approach to addressing this issue.
In addition to Congressman Flood, other notable speakers from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the First Congressional District will also be present at the summit. Throughout the event, Congressman Flood will be available for interviews, providing an opportunity for media representatives to gain further insights into the topic.
