Rep. Mike Flood, who represents Nebraska’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, shared reflections and concerns on social media regarding the legacy of Dick Cheney and the potential impacts of a government shutdown on air travel.

On November 4, 2025, Flood posted about former Vice President Dick Cheney's public service career: "From his time in the House of Representatives to his service as Secretary of Defense and Vice President, Dick Cheney worked to make America and the world a safer, more peaceful place through his decades of public service." In a subsequent message posted on the same day, Flood noted Cheney's ties to Nebraska and expressed condolences: "Many Nebraskans will remember him as native of Lincoln where he was born before his family made Wyoming their home. Mandi and I are praying for the Cheney family as we honor his life and service to our country."

Later that evening, Flood addressed current events affecting federal operations: "We're going to see things we haven't seen before. Our air travel system is at risk because of the ongoing Democrats government shutdown. More from my visit with @NEWSMAX last week "

Flood has served in Congress since 2022 after succeeding Jeff Fortenberry and previously spent six years in the Nebraska State Legislature. Born in Omaha in 1975, Flood resides in Norfolk. He holds degrees from both the University of Notre Dame (BA) and University of Nebraska-Lincoln (JD).
