U.S. Congressman Mike Flood, who chairs the Housing and Insurance Subcommittee, released a statement addressing concerns about the potential effects of a government shutdown on the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
“A federal government shutdown is looming as Washington Democrats hold up government funding. One of the consequences of this will be that the National Flood Insurance Program will be severely impacted at midnight tonight. This means no new flood insurance contracts will be issued and consequently real estate transactions that require flood insurance may get held up. Democrats need to come to the table and vote to keep the government open, so we can make Washington work for the people and keep critical programs like flood insurance available,” Flood said.
Flood represents Nebraska’s First Congressional District in Congress and has served in this role since 2022 after replacing Jeff Fortenberry. Before his time in Congress, he was a member of the Nebraska State Legislature from 2007 to 2013. Flood was born in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1975 and now resides in Norfolk. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a bachelor's degree in 1997 and earned a law degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2001.
Flood also serves as Chair of the Republican Main Street Caucus alongside his role leading the Housing and Insurance Subcommittee.
