Rep. Mike Flood, U.S. Congressman representing Nebraska’s 1st district since 2022, used his social media platform this week to honor the lives and legacies of two public figures, Charlie Kirk and Sen. Schmit.
On September 17, Flood shared news of a recent House event: "Earlier this week, the House held a candlelight vigil to honor and remember Charlie Kirk. Our prayers are with the Kirk family as our nation continues to mourn his loss. https://t.co/gs5RlwMKmH"
The following day, on September 18, Flood reflected on the contributions of Sen. Schmit in Nebraska: "From building the ethanol industry to establishing the Legislature’s ombudsman, Sen. Schmit left an indelible mark on the Cornhusker State. He was a good friend who could get virtually anything done when he put his mind to it." In a subsequent post on the same date, Flood added: "Mandi and I are praying for his family as they celebrate his legacy and a long life well lived."
Flood's remarks come in light of his own background in Nebraska politics. He has represented Nebraska’s 1st District in Congress since replacing Jeff Fortenberry in 2022 and previously served in the Nebraska State Legislature from 2007 to 2013. Born in Omaha in 1975, Flood resides in Norfolk and holds degrees from both the University of Notre Dame (BA) and University of Nebraska-Lincoln (JD).
