Rep. Adrian Smith (R-NE) has announced the formation of the Modern Agriculture Caucus alongside several other representatives, including Frank Lucas (R-OK), Brad Finstad (R-MN), Erin Houchin (R-IN), Vince Fong (R-CA), Tracey Mann (R-KS), and Rob Bresnahan (R-PA). The caucus aims to support innovative efforts in agriculture across America.
Smith stated, "I see great opportunity to bring awareness and support to innovative efforts of American farmers and ranchers feeding and fueling the world." He emphasized that the caucus will focus on promoting cutting-edge technologies, stewardship of natural resources, and protection of U.S. agricultural innovation.
Vice Chair Lucas expressed his pleasure in joining as Vice Chair of Biotechnology, highlighting the importance of bringing together legislators focused on agriculture. He said, "This caucus will bring together a cross section of agriculture-focused legislators to educate and advocate on the agricultural issues affecting farmers today."
Finstad shared his personal experience as a fourth-generation farmer witnessing technological advances in agriculture. He stated, "American farmers are the most efficient producers in the world," as he takes on the role of Vice Chair of Emerging Innovations.
Houchin highlighted her role as Vice Chair of Precision Agriculture, noting how emerging technologies can transform farming practices. She said, "Precision ag supports American farmers and helps ensure the U.S. remains the global leader in agriculture."
Fong discussed his position as Vice Chair of Smart Irrigation, emphasizing sustainable practices amid volatile water cycles. He remarked, "Driving smart, sustainable practices through the Modern Ag Caucus is essential."
Mann addressed advancements in automation and AI within agriculture during his appointment as Vice Chair of Automation & AI. He noted that artificial intelligence could significantly improve efficiency over time.
Bresnahan stressed food affordability while serving as Vice Chair for this sector. He stated that affordable food depends on modern agricultural techniques: “Every American family deserves access to affordable nutritious food.”
U.S Secretary Brooke L Rollins acknowledged both Trump Administration’s contribution towards agricultural technology advancement along with Congress' support: “When our farmers have innovative tools at their disposal; rural America prospers benefiting everyone nationwide.”
House Agriculture Committee Chairman GT Thompson endorsed these initiatives too by saying: “The Modern Agriculture Caucus will champion policies embracing advancements like precision ag supporting sustainable farming.”
The leadership team includes Chairman Rep Adrian Smith along with various vice chairs representing different aspects such as precision agriculture biotechnology among others while additional members comprise Reps Marianette Miller Meeks Jim Baird Don Bacon Mike Flood Michelle Fischbach Tony Wied Jeff Hurd Ashley Hinson David Valadao Stephanie Bice David Rouzer Ann Wagner.
