U.S. Congressman Mike Flood, alongside 23 other Members of Congress, has addressed a letter to U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem. The correspondence seeks information regarding the United States' capabilities in countering drone threats.
Congressman Flood emphasized the increasing sophistication of drones and their pivotal role in global military conflicts. "Drones are constantly becoming more advanced and are increasingly at the center of military conflicts around the world," he stated. He further highlighted the importance of keeping America's counter-drone defenses up-to-date with evolving technologies, referencing recent developments in the Russia-Ukraine War and across the Middle East.
The letter underlines concerns following successful U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities at Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan. It stresses the necessity for readiness and security at military bases, critical infrastructure, and overseas diplomatic installations due to potential retaliatory actions from Iran. "A potential Iranian response could involve direct attacks here at home or abroad," reads part of the letter.
Congressman Flood holds positions as Vice Chair of the Republican Main Street Caucus and Chairman of the Housing and Insurance Subcommittee.
