U.S. Senator Deb Fischer has announced that her Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) Tax Credit is included in the Senate Finance Committee's legislative text as part of the reconciliation process. This development follows the initial establishment of the nation's first PFML policy in 2017, a collaborative effort between Fischer and Senator Angus King.

Fischer expressed gratitude towards Chairman Crapo for his support, stating, “I want to thank Chairman Crapo for working with me to make sure my Paid Family and Medical Leave Policy is made permanent in the Senate Finance bill. Since securing the nation’s first-ever and only PFML policy in 2017, it has helped employers of all sizes offer PFML plans to their employees. I’m pleased we are continuing to build upon this important effort to benefit America’s working families.”

The inclusion of Fischer's tax credit in the Senate Finance bill follows its earlier incorporation into a House tax bill by the House Ways & Means Committee, which passed in May.

Fischer and King originally introduced the nationwide PFML policy through the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which was implemented in 2018. The duo reintroduced an updated version of their bill in February, aiming to enhance support for working families by providing more ways for employers to qualify for the paid leave tax credit, including options like PFML insurance products.
