U.S. Congressman Mike Flood has extended his congratulations to Cardinal Robert Prevost, who has been selected as the new pope of the Roman Catholic Church. In a statement released today, Congressman Flood acknowledged the historic nature of an American being elected to this significant religious position.
Flood remarked, "Congratulations to Cardinal Prevost on his election as the Holy Father. While stories today will focus on the historic nature of an American pope, he has a big task before him in leading the Church with 1.4 billion Catholics in a changing world and carrying out the mission of sharing Christ’s message of hope and salvation with the world."
The congressman also shared that he and his wife Mandi will be praying for Pope Leo XIV as he begins his leadership role within the church. "May God bless him and the people he shepherds!" Flood added.
