Housing and Insurance Subcommittee leaders, Rep. Mike Flood and Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, are initiating a public engagement process for the reauthorization of the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Home Investment Partnership Program (HOME) and the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).
The public is invited to submit feedback via email to FloodCleaver@mail.house.gov by April 25, 2025. Suggestions are specifically sought from those with experience in these programs. Rep. Flood emphasized the bipartisan effort, stating, "We’re working across party lines on key issues that are important nationwide: reducing housing costs and building more housing supply."
Rep. Cleaver described the collaboration as a starting point to address the issue of rising housing costs, noting, "Rising housing costs are a big problem, and there’s no silver bullet, but we have found a good place to start our collaboration: the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Home Investment Partnership Program and the Community Development Block Grant programs."
The programs have not seen reauthorization from Congress since 1992. As part of the engagement, select contributors will be invited to discuss their ideas in Washington, D.C.
Rep. Flood and Rep. Cleaver are leading this initiative, representing Nebraska’s First and Missouri’s Fifth Congressional District, respectively.
