U.S. Congressman Mike Flood hosted Father Brett Jamrog of Norfolk, Nebraska, as a guest chaplain at the U.S. Capitol to deliver the opening prayer before the U.S. House of Representatives on June 28, 2024. Following Father Jamrog’s prayer, Rep. Flood delivered brief welcome remarks on the House floor, acknowledging Fr. Jamrog’s contributions to both the community and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norfolk.
Father Jamrog began his prayer with, “May the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, amen.” He expressed gratitude for being present among representatives of the country and invoked divine guidance for their thoughts, words, and actions to align with a providential plan. He emphasized service to all by sharing grief and pain while drawing inspiration from faith. His prayer concluded with a plea for truth, freedom, peace, justice, and hope.
Rep. Flood welcomed Father Jamrog by stating: “Thank you, Mr. Speaker, I rise today to welcome Father Brett Jamrog, who delivered this morning’s prayer as guest chaplain for the day." He highlighted that Father Jamrog is originally from Lincoln, Nebraska and serves as a priest in the Archdiocese of Omaha since his ordination in 2022. Rep. Flood noted that Fr. Jamrog has significantly impacted his community by administering sacraments daily and teaching at Sacred Heart parish.
Rep. Flood further remarked on faith's foundational role in forming leaders and guiding the nation: "Father’s presence here today reminds us of the foundational role that faith plays in forming leaders and guiding our country." He expressed honor in hosting Fr. Jamrog in Washington D.C., acknowledging his prayers as a blessing to the chamber.
Concluding his remarks, Rep. Flood stated: "Once again, we extend our gratitude to Father Jamrog for serving as today’s guest chaplain."
