WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Congressman Mike Flood expressed his support for the Reforming Intelligence and Securing America Act, following a recent vote on H.R. 7888, the legislation that modifies and temporarily extends the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) for two years.
In his statement, Congressman Flood highlighted the importance of the Act in enhancing national security while safeguarding the freedoms of American citizens. He stated, “The Reforming Intelligence and Securing America Act makes critical changes to FISA to better protect the freedoms of the American people while strengthening national security protections."
Having been privy to classified briefings, Congressman Flood emphasized the significance of tools like those provided by FISA in combating threats against the United States. He remarked, "I have experienced firsthand during classified briefings how important tools like these are in combatting threats against the citizens of the United States."
Looking ahead, Congressman Flood underscored the need for ongoing adaptations to FISA to address the evolving tactics of foreign adversaries. He emphasized the necessity for Congress to continually revise the law to empower the country in countering emerging threats while upholding the civil liberties of the American people. Congressman Flood stated, "As foreign adversaries evolve and deploy more sophisticated spying operations in the coming years, Congress must continue to revise this law to help our country combat these threats while ensuring that we protect the civil liberties of the American people."
