WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Mike Flood has expressed his support for the impeachment of U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. In a statement following the vote, Congressman Flood highlighted Mayorkas' failure to address President Biden's border crisis and accused him of making it worse.
"Secretary Mayorkas has not only failed to address President Biden's border crisis, but he has also actively made it worse," said Congressman Flood. "From reinstating catch and release to cutting razor wire along the border, Mayorkas has invited millions from around the world to enter America illegally."
The decision to impeach Secretary Mayorkas was not taken lightly, as it followed a nearly year-long investigation by the House Committee on Homeland Security. Congressman Flood emphasized that he has witnessed the impact of Mayorkas' failed leadership during his two trips to the border, including his most recent visit just last month.
"Secretary Mayorkas' decision to open our border to the world has turned every community in this nation into a border town," said Congressman Flood. "I strongly urge the Senate to proceed with prosecution and to remove Mayorkas swiftly."
Congressman Flood voted in favor of two articles of impeachment against Secretary Mayorkas. Article I charges Mayorkas with Willful and Systemic Refusal to Comply with the Law, while Article II charges him with Breach of Public Trust.
The impeachment vote against Secretary Mayorkas is a significant development in the ongoing debate surrounding the Biden administration's handling of border security. It reflects growing concerns among some lawmakers that the current policies and actions of the Department of Homeland Security are exacerbating the border crisis rather than resolving it.
As the impeachment proceedings move forward, it remains to be seen how the Senate will respond to the call for prosecution and potential removal of Secretary Mayorkas. The outcome of this process will undoubtedly have far-reaching implications for the Biden administration's immigration and border security policies.
