WASHINGTON, D.C. On May 17, Congressman Mike Flood issued a statement following votes on key measures supporting America’s law enforcement members as the country observes National Police Week.

“At a time when our law enforcement community has been under siege by anti-public safety forces, it’s critical that Congress step forward and send a message loud and clear that America stands with our country’s peace officers. Law enforcement put their lives on the line every day to protect our communities and to keep our families and kids safe. It’s simply commonsense to make assaulting an officer result in automatic deportation. In America, we have respect for the rule of law and the POLICE Act ensures that this value is reflected in a key area of our federal criminal code.”

Congressman Flood voted in favor of the following measures today:

  • H.R. 2494 known as the POLICE Act of 2023 - a bill that makes it the assault of a law enforcement officer a deportable offense.
  • H.R. 3091 known as the Federal Law Enforcement Officer Service Weapon Purchase Act - a bill that allows federal law enforcement officers to purchase a retired handgun from a federal agency.
