LINCOLN, NEBRASKA – On April 24, U.S. Congressman Mike Flood issued a statement on a new rule from the Federal Housing Finance Agency regarding mortgages.
“Joe Biden’s new plan to force homeowners with high credit scores to directly subsidize mortgages for people with low credit scores undermines the future of homeownership as a part of the American dream. It not only makes buying a house more expensive for many Americans, but it will also incentivize people, who are already in a financially fragile position, to take on risks that are unsustainable. Taxing one set of people to support the mortgages of another is not a recipe for long-term financial stability. Instead of creating new taxes, our country should be looking at strategies to help people with low credit scores build the income they need to afford good housing and grow their future.”
