The Steel Wheels will bring live bluegrass music at 6 p.m. on Sept. 14 to the plaza at Nebraska Innovation Campus. This is the second concert in the Nebraska Bluegrass Concert Series and is free and open to the public.
Food and drink will be available for purchase at 5 p.m. from The Mill Coffee and Bistro.
The Steel Wheels have long been at home in the creative space between tradition and innovation, informed by the familiar sounds of the Virginia mountains where the band was formed, but always moving forward with insightful lyrics and an evolving sound.
In 2005, Jay Lapp (vocals, guitars, mandolin) and Eric Brubaker (vocals, fiddle) joined lead singer Trent Wagler (guitar, banjo) in forming the band as a vehicle for Wagler’s songwriting. They released several albums under Wagler’s moniker, before officially adopting the The Steel Wheels name with the 2010 release of Red Wing.
Tours of Nebraska Innovation Studio, the makerspace at NIC, will also be offered at 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. before the performance. Limited concert seating is available; attendees are asked to bring their own chairs. Free event parking is available in the paved lot north of Transformation Drive.
The concert series is sponsored by Nebraska Innovation Campus, The Mill Coffee and Tea, ALLO Fiber, Union Bank and Trust, The Scarlet Hotel and Nebraska Nova.
