In the Summer of 1944, while their husbands were in the service, these women would meet every Wednesday for social time. On this July evening, Mrs. Dean Liedtke and son Michael Dean, center, were the guests of honor.

When this photo ran in the paper on July 23, 1944, Harvey Langley, Robert Fulton, and Floyd Hawkins had died just days earlier at the Battle of St Lo in France, but the family had not been notified yet. Dean Liedtke was wounded at St Lo and survived. Thomas Coates was killed in action on July 31 in France. Ray Larimore was wounded at St Lo, survived, but was killed in action Germany Nov. 16, 1944. Willard Legate was killed in action in Dec. 1944 in Germany.
