Jared Hanner, Correctional Officer with the Lancaster County Department of Corrections, was honored with the Commissioners’ Award of Excellence at the June 28, 2022, Board of Commissioners meeting.  Officer Hanner was nominated by Lieutenant Jane Voboril in the category of Productivity.  The Commissioners’ Award of Excellence recognizes employees who consistently provide outstanding service and work that demonstrates exemplary personal commitment to Lancaster County.

In her nomination, Lt. Voboril states, “Ofc. Jared Hanner is assigned to 2nd Shift at the Lancaster County Adult Detention Facility. Working 2nd Shift, in itself, can be demanding and intense. In recent weeks, the Department has hired several new staff which have been assigned to 2nd Shift. As a Supervisor, I rely on experienced and trustworthy staff, to introduce our new recruits to their daily tasks and activities, especially when it comes to on-the-job training. Ofc. Hanner has repeatedly accepted this challenge with professionalism and grace. There have been days when Ofc. Hanner has even accepted two new staff members for on-the-job training. I trust that he will always instruct new officers in the correct manner, while demonstrating patience and professionalism. Being able to provide professional and impactful on-the-job training, helps complete the training process and create successful officers. Having well-trained staff, who have a complete understanding the expectations of the job, should increase employee retention, thereby saving money in training and overtime. Taking on the task of assisting with on-the-job training, has meant that Ofc. Hanner has been taken out of a normal post rotation and has had his daily assignments changed. It has required him to be extremely flexible and divide his attention between his normal duties of supervising inmates and instructing the new staff.”

Deb Schorr, Lancaster County Board Chair, stated, “Your willingness and dedication to training new correctional officers in a precise and professional manner is critical to the operation of the Lancaster County Department of Corrections.  There is no question that your work results in cost savings to the County and is a great service to your coworkers and those in our charge.  The County Board appreciates you, and we extend our congratulations on this award.”
