This month Alan is celebrating his 25th Year Anniversary with the City of Seward. Alan worked 2 years in the Street Department and 23 years in the Electric Department. Here’s a few questions we asked Alan about the last 25 years…..
City: What made you apply for your job with the City?
Alan: I was working in Kansas City after college and decided to come back to Nebraska to farm. I wasn’t able to find any farm ground at the time, so I started with the City and helped out on the family farm as a side job. When my parents decided to retire I had been with the City for several years. I enjoyed the job and people I was working with. I also liked working in the community and meeting new people, so I decided to continue working for the City.
City: Do you remember your first day?
Alan: I started with the Street Department when Calvin Nordmeyer was the Superintendent. I was supposed to meet the crew on Sunrise Drive to remove concrete. Not knowing the City streets very well I had asked where Sunrise Drive was located. Calvin told me to drive around town and I would find them. That day I learned many of the streets before I found them.
City: How has your job changed over the years?
Alan: Technology has changed immensely from mapping, to equipment, to the products we install. All this establishes a safer atmosphere and more reliable electrical system.
City: What’s your favorite part of the job?
Alan: Working with my coworkers, contractors, and having the opportunity to meet new people in the community daily. Also knowing the crew is safe and power is restored to all the customers when it’s a stormy night and there are power outages.
Thank you, Alan for all your hard work! Happy 25th Anniversary!
