We would like to announce and congratulate Deputy Cody Laursen 92034 on his recent appointment to K9 Handler. Cody was raised in Hemingford, NE and graduated from Doane University in 2019. He began his service with the Cass County Sheriff's Office in the fall of 2020.  Cody graduated with academic honors from the Nebraska Law Enforcement Basic Academy in 2021. Currently, Cody and his wife Kymberly are raising two Labrador Retrievers, Zuma and Zeke, along with K9 Samson.

K9 Samson, a Belgian Malinois, born September 04, 2020, in Scandinavia, underwent many selection tests to ensure he would be a good fit as a Law Enforcement K9. Samson was selected by Kasseburg K9, a vendor out of New Market, Alabama, to be brought to a police agency in the US.  Here, Samson was determined to be a perfect fit for the Cass County Sheriff’s office as a single-purpose canine.  Many generous donations from the community donated the funds necessary to bring Samson to Cass County!  K9 Samson made the trek from Alabama to Nebraska, where he started training at the Nebraska State Patrol Detector Camp. In training, he has learned to search, alert, and indicate the presence of illegal drugs. Samson will also learn to track lost evidence and missing and endangered adults or children.

K9 Handler Cody Laursen and K9 Samson have completed their training after an 8 week training program.  The team has also conducted and completed an annual Nebraska State Certification course to be able to start working.

Help us welcome our newest K9 Handler Cody Laursen and his partner, K9 Samson!
