U.S. Congressman Mike Flood has voiced concerns about a reported plan by the Trump administration to significantly increase beef imports from Argentina. Flood, who represents Nebraska’s 1st district in Congress and has served since 2022 after replacing Jeff Fortenberry, responded to news that Argentine beef imports could be quadrupled.
Flood stated, “America produces the highest-quality, safest beef in the world. The USDA’s plan to invest in independent domestic production capacity for beef processing would strengthen both food and national security, but the administration’s push to import foreign beef from Argentina would undermine domestic producers. Argentine beef doesn’t hold a candle to what our families produce. The overall goal of keeping Argentina from falling into the arms of China is really important, but we can do this without hurting America’s cattle producers. I urge the Trump administration to find another way to accomplish their goal without expanding foreign beef imports.”
Flood was born in Omaha, Nebraska in 1975 and currently lives in Norfolk. He previously served in the Nebraska State Legislature from 2007 to 2013 and holds degrees from the University of Notre Dame and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
