U.S. Congressman Mike Flood is urging young people in Nebraska's First District, aged between 13½ and 23, to apply for the Congressional Award program. The program invites gold medal recipients to Washington, D.C. each June for an award ceremony and reception.

“The Congressional Award Foundation is accepting applications on a rolling basis,” said Congressman Flood. “Whether you’re involved in organizations such as 4-H, Scouts, student government, sports, or other extracurriculars, this is a great opportunity to be recognized for your efforts and achievements. Applications are accepted year-round, so I encourage you learn more about how to participate in this outstanding program on my website.”

The Congressional Award program was established in 1973 and is Congress’ only nonprofit initiative. It serves as the highest civilian honor for youth in the United States. The Foundation recognizes individuals based on accomplishments in four categories: Voluntary Public Service, Personal Development, Physical Fitness, and Expedition/Exploration.

Applications are accepted continuously without hard deadlines. More information on how to apply can be found online.
