Rep. Mike Flood, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Nebraska’s 1st district, has shared his thoughts on recent developments through social media posts. Flood, who replaced Jeff Fortenberry in 2022 and has previously served in the Nebraska State Legislature from 2007 to 2013, expressed both personal and political reflections.
On May 8, 2025, Flood tweeted about the beginning of Pope Leo XIV's pontificate. He stated "Mandi and I will be praying for Pope Leo XIV as his pontificate begins. May God bless him and the people he shepherds!" The message conveyed a personal prayer for the new pope and his mission.
In another tweet on the same day, Flood highlighted the challenges faced by Pope Leo XIV due to his unique position as an American pope. He remarked "While stories today will focus on the historic nature of an American pope, he has a big task before him in leading the Church with 1.4 billion Catholics in a changing world and carrying out the mission of sharing Christ’s message of hope and salvation with the world."
Later that day, Flood commented on trade policies under different administrations. He criticized former President Biden's lack of action regarding trade while praising former President Trump’s achievements. He tweeted "Over the last four years, President Biden did nothing on trade. Within a matter of months, President Trump’s dealmaking experience resulted in a trade deal with the United Kingdom, one of our country’s oldest allies."
Flood was born in Omaha, Nebraska in 1975 and currently resides in Norfolk. A graduate from the University of Notre Dame with a BA in 1997, he also earned a JD from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2001.
