Today, U.S. Congressman Mike Flood introduced the "Ending Green Giveaways Act" in Washington, D.C. The proposed legislation aims to withdraw funding from a specific section of the Inflation Reduction Act that accelerates federal grants from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) addressing "environmental and climate justice challenges."
Congressman Flood stated, "While the American people oppose the Green New Deal, the Biden administration continues to shovel money out the door even though Americans have elected a Republican trifecta that's set to take office." He further noted, "President Trump has promised to roll back the Green New Deal, and this bill takes a key step towards doing that. The Ending Green Giveaways Act returns unused funds from the $3 billion of taxpayers' money allocated to an out-of-touch, unaccountable 'environmental justice' grant program managed by the EPA."
The act specifically targets text related to the "Community Challenge Grants" program and seeks to rescind any unspent funds allocated under the Inflation Reduction Act. This program was expedited by the EPA with a budget of $3 billion. Concerns were previously raised by the EPA's Inspector General before Congress about potential neglect of important internal controls and anti-fraud protections by those administering these grants.
