U.S. Congressman Mike Flood delivered remarks today honoring Nebraska Supreme Court Chief Justice Mike Heavican, who has announced his retirement after nearly two decades of service.

"Mister Speaker, I rise today to honor Chief Justice Mike Heavican of the State of Nebraska, who has announced his retirement after almost two decades of exemplary service as the head of Nebraska’s Supreme Court and its entire judicial branch," said Rep. Flood.

Flood highlighted Chief Justice Heavican's career trajectory, noting his roles as a deputy county attorney, county attorney, U.S. Attorney, and ultimately Chief Justice. "Through the years, the Chief Justice has led Nebraska’s judiciary with integrity," he stated.

Flood also reflected on their collaborative efforts during his tenure as Speaker of the Unicameral. "During my time as Speaker of the Unicameral, I had the great honor of working with Chief Justice Heavican to establish the first and now annual tradition of the 'State of the Judiciary' address to our state’s legislature."

He concluded by expressing gratitude on behalf of his constituents: "On behalf of the people of the First District, I want to extend best wishes to Chief Justice Heavican and our sincere gratitude for his decades of remarkable public service."
