Today, U.S. Congressman Mike Flood (NE-01) led a letter joined by U.S. Senators Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) and Pete Ricketts (R-Neb.), along with U.S. Representatives Don Bacon (NE-02) and Adrian Smith (NE-03), addressed to Governor Jim Pillen (R-Neb.) and Senator John Arch (R), Speaker of the Nebraska Unicameral Legislature, advocating for Nebraska to return to a winner-take-all system.
“As members of Nebraska’s federal delegation in Congress, we are united in our support for apportioning all five of Nebraska’s electoral votes in presidential elections according to the winner of the whole state. It is past time that Nebraska join 48 other states in embracing winner-take-all in presidential elections,” wrote the Nebraska delegation in their letter.
In the 1990s, a Democrat-led effort resulted in Nebraska splitting its electoral votes. The state is currently considering whether to revert to a winner-take-all method of apportionment.
