WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Congressman Mike Flood has expressed his strong condemnation of the corruption within the New York City Housing Authority. The recent news of federal prosecutors filing charges against numerous employees of the agency has shed light on the deep-rooted culture of misconduct.

In a statement, Congressman Flood highlighted the severity of the situation, stating, "The culture of corruption at the New York City Housing Authority is shocking. The systematic work of current and former employees to steal taxpayer money harms not just the people of New York, but communities across the country who are struggling to build affordable housing at a time when inflation is putting home ownership out of reach for many."

Congressman Flood emphasized the need for federal agencies to be vigilant in identifying and addressing waste, fraud, and abuse. He stressed that failure to do so allows taxpayer dollars to be funneled into the hands of criminals rather than being utilized to tackle the critical housing challenges faced not only in Nebraska but across the nation.

As a member of the House Financial Services Committee and the Housing and Insurance Subcommittee, Congressman Flood has been actively involved in overseeing the use of taxpayer funds. He commended the efforts of federal prosecutors in bringing the corruption within the New York City Housing Authority to light.

"I applaud the work of federal prosecutors and look forward to continuing conducting rigorous oversight through the Housing and Insurance Subcommittee of how our taxpayer funds are used," stated Congressman Flood.

In addition to his role in the committee, Congressman Flood recently participated in a Housing Summit held in Columbus, Nebraska. The summit brought together key figures such as the Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, as well as representatives from HUD, Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac.

The revelation of corruption within the New York City Housing Authority serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining integrity and transparency in the management of public funds. Congressman Flood's commitment to rigorous oversight and his dedication to addressing the housing challenges faced by communities across the country highlight the need for continued vigilance in combating corruption in public agencies.
