WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Mike Flood recently wrote the U.S. Postmaster with a series of questions regarding the potential relocation of the Downtown Lincoln Post Office. His letter follows correspondence from the U.S. Postmaster regarding the future of the Downtown Lincoln Post Office.
“As mentioned in my previous letter, I am not asking that this facility be relocated immediately; rather to begin the conversation of finding a more appropriate long-term location,” wrote Congressman Flood. “Lincoln’s historic Haymarket District has become a premier sports and entertainment area in the State of Nebraska. I join local leaders in a shared desire to resolve this issue for the betterment of the City of Lincoln, the State of Nebraska, and the United States Postal Service.”
In the letter, Congressman Flood poses several questions to the U.S. Postmaster. They include:
- In your letter, you write “such facility matters are not made by the local Postmaster.” Which USPS official is responsible for making such decisions?
- What factors does the USPS consider in determining whether or not to relocate a facility? Were these factors used in consideration of relocating this facility to a more suitable location?
- How long would it take to relocate this facility to a more suitable location?
Previously, Congressman Flood had written the Lincoln Postmaster on April 20th after a meeting to discuss the relocation of the Lincoln Post Office had been canceled. That letter can be found here. While the Lincoln Postmaster did not reply, a government relations representative for the U.S. Postal Service wrote a letter to Congressman Flood on May 4th. A copy of that letter can be found here.
