A Beatrice High School student made a very inappropriate comment in class

Many have asked about the threat that is being mentioned and circulated on Facebook. Last week, a Beatrice High School student made a very inappropriate comment in class. Obviously, other high school students were in the class and heard the comment. Over the weekend, the story got severely embellished, and there were calls made to the Beatrice Police Department of a possible "School Shooting" taking place on Monday.

Classroom Statement:Last week, the prompt for speech class was "If you are dressing up for Halloween, what would you dress up as?" The student responded with "A school shooter".

At the time the statement was made in class, Beatrice High School administrators and School Resource Officer promptly responded and investigated the incident. It was determined to be a very inappropriate comment with no intention for school violence. School and police officials responded in accordance with the school handbook and Nebraska laws.

Beatrice Public Schools has an active threat assessment team to respond to any reports of planned violence. At the time of the investigation, there was no information that warranted anything besides addressing the inappropriate comment that was made.

We took reports received over the weekend very seriously and worked very closely with the Beatrice Police Department. It was determined the reports all related back to the incident in the high school classroom and there is no danger to any school.

Since the communication was all coming from the High School a message was sent to High School Parents. Out of an abundance of caution, our local law enforcement provided extra patrols near our schools. We take concerns like this seriously, if you have specific concerns as always report them to the building principal, police, or to P3 Campus.
