The third of the 3 ribbon cuttings today celebrated the Big Blue River Access near the West Court bridge. This project was completed in November 2021. In addition to providing a launch site for canoes and kayaks, the City took this opportunity to install a check valve to prevent river water from backing up out of the storm sewer to the west. This is expected to delay the closure of Highway 136/West Court Street during floods.
The Big Blue River Access project was jointly funded by a Gage County Visitors Improvement grant, City lodging tax revenues, and grants from the Coffin Foundation, Beatrice Plus, and the Lower Big Blue Natural Resources District.
