2021 City Highlights - Police Department

Police

The Police Department has experienced a lot of changes over the past two years. Chief Alan Baldwin retired after serving the City of Seward for 23 years. Although we were sad to see Alan hang up his badge, we're excited for him as he heads off to new adventures!

Alan's departure provided promotion opportunities for officers within the department. Assistant Chief Brian Peters was appointed to replace Alan as Chief. This was followed by Sergeant Mike Hammond being promoted to Captain and Officers Allison Sommerfeld and Russ Frazey promoted to Sergeant.

A few new faces have been added to the department as well. Russ Frazey, Lacy Samek and Jarod Phillips were hired as officers and Shannon Arena as our new Community Service Officer. We thank Officer Johnson and the other field training officers for taking on the role of showing new members what being a Seward Police Officer is all about.

During 2021, Officer Chris Waldron was deployed overseas with the Nebraska National Guard. He just returned home this month. We're excited to have him back!

We also would like to mention that our Administrative Secretary, Jodie Niebrugge, is celebrating her 30th year with the City of Seward!

Officer Shana Schendt participated in public service announcements relating to Seward's mask mandate as well as domestic violence awareness.

Officer Wiedemeyer took the lead on getting our mobile speed tracking trailer functional and deploying it all over the City.

Thank you Seward Nebraska Police Department  for all you do!

*Check back with us every Thursday as we continue to share the 2021 highlights from every department.
