Today, U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) expressed approval of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ decision to include the Omaha VA hospital project in their Five Year Development Plan. This move advances the project towards final construction.

“The Omaha VA hospital will turn 75 years old this year, and it’s clear it must be replaced to meet the standard of care our veterans need and deserve,” Fischer stated. “That’s why I was glad to see the Omaha VA hospital project added to the VA’s Five-Year Development Plan, which will help spur the construction of this much-needed facility. I’ll continue to work through my position as a member of the Appropriations Committee to invest in and improve our VA infrastructure in Nebraska.”

Previously, the replacement project for the Omaha VA hospital was part of the Strategic Capital Investment Planning Process Project List. With its inclusion in the Five Year Development Plan, there is now a firm commitment from the VA for design, planning, and eventual construction.

As a member of the Senate Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Subcommittee, Fischer has advocated for investments in VA infrastructure. Last month, she questioned VA Secretary Doug Collins on his plans for maintaining a strong VA presence and supporting her CHIP IN for Veterans Act. This act enables local communities to assist with planning and constructing VA health care facilities.
